This morning I read about a man who was pulled out of his truck in Portland and beaten very badly. This man was not a Martyr for Christ nor was he spreading any message of the Gospel. However, what he was doing was offering to help a lady that was being treated badly by people in the area. In other words he was acting upon one of the oldest virtues of mankind which is Chivalry. Because of this he was hurt very badly and people watched, participated in the attack on him, and video taped it.
My point in writing this is to remind us all that "Man is inherently wicked" according to the Bible. If it was not so then Chivalry would not be practiced, because the need would not exist. How much better would it be if we loved one another and practiced the Golden Rule. I wonder if all people are still taught the Golden Rule?
The philosophy and theology of Christianity is so much more than just securing a place in Heaven. That decision is easy that even a small child will chose loving heaven over condemning hell when it is explained to them. It is kind of like choosing cake over broccoli. However, it takes effort to live the Christian life that the original decision requires. Wouldn't it be better if more people would consider the teaching of Christ? We have all heard the question "What would Jesus Do?"
Every Sunday morning we are reminded in our Liturgy that "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
After Faith, this summary of the Law is very important. Without it we cannot fully understand and live the Christian life.
How important is this to you? Take time to leave a response and let me know.
Blessings to you all,
