Title: Walking in the Light: Following Jesus During Holy Week
Today is Monday of Holy Week and we will embark on a journey together, walking in the footsteps of Jesus as we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. In our readings today, we find guidance and encouragement for our own journey of faith.
Point 1: Isaiah 42:1-9 - God's Chosen Servant
In Isaiah, we hear about God's chosen servant, someone filled with God's Spirit, who will bring justice to the nations. This servant isn't loud or flashy, but gentle and compassionate. Just like Jesus, who came not as a mighty king, but as a humble servant, showing us how to love and serve others.
Challenge: Let us strive to emulate Jesus' humility and compassion in our interactions with others this week.
Point 2: Psalm 35:5-10 - Trusting in God's Deliverance
The Psalmist reminds us to trust in God's deliverance, even when we face challenges and enemies. We can take comfort in knowing that God is our refuge and strength, and He will never abandon us. Like David, who faced many trials but always turned to God for help, we too can find strength in trusting Him.
Challenge: When faced with difficulties, let us lean on God's strength and trust in His promises to see us through.
Point 3: Hebrews 11:39-12:3 - Running the Race of Faith
In Hebrews, we learn about the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us, living lives of faith despite struggles and hardships. They inspire us to keep running the race of faith, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Just as athletes focus on the finish line, we too can persevere through challenges by keeping our eyes on Jesus.
Challenge: Let us not grow weary in our faith, but press on with perseverance, knowing that our efforts are witnessed by a heavenly crowd cheering us on.
Point 4: John 12:1-11 - Mary's Act of Love
In John, we witness Mary's beautiful act of love and devotion as she anoints Jesus' feet with expensive perfume. Despite criticism from others, Mary shows us the importance of giving our best to Jesus and expressing our love for Him. Like Mary, may we pour out our hearts in worship and adoration, recognizing Jesus' worthiness of our praise.
Challenge: As we reflect on Mary's extravagant love, let us consider how we can express our devotion to Jesus in tangible ways, giving Him our best in all that we do.
Conclusion:
As we journey through this Holy Week, let us embrace the example of Jesus and the lessons from Scripture. May we serve with humility, trust in God's deliverance, persevere in our faith, and lavish our love on Jesus. Let's walk together in the light of Christ, knowing that He is with us every step of the way. And may each challenge inspire us to live out our faith more fully, bringing glory to God in all that we do. Amen.
